About Well Informed Data Services
Well Informed Data Services was founded in August 2025 to solve a costly problem in offshore oil and gas work. Engineers and operators were spending four to seven days searching through scattered records, legacy filings, and field reports to gather the data needed for plugging and abandonment permitting. WIDS helps reduce that process to hours by delivering clear, cited well data built for faster review and better planning.

WIDS is a data company focused on offshore well permitting support. We help engineers and operators collect and review the records needed for plugging and abandonment work. Our goal is simple: reduce research time, organize critical well information, and help teams move forward with less delay.
Why WIDS Exists
WIDS was created to solve the age old problem of searching through legacy oil and gas documents. In many cases, the issue was never a lack of engineering skill. The real problem was time, scattered records, and the difficulty of finding complete well information before important decisions had to be made.
Joey Renzaglia and Paul McKim formed WIDS so engineers and operators could spend less time searching and more time preparing for the work ahead. That need led to the creation of a system built to gather, sort, and present offshore well data in a way that matches how engineers review a well.

WIDS converts decades of unstructured oil and gas regulatory documents into structured well histories, diagrams, and cited support for permitting workflows. We turn regulatory archives, scattered documents, and field reports into a permit-grade report built for BSEE. WIDS is supported by a rich database of BSEE wells, documents, well tests, and other public records gathered into one AI-ready infrastructure. No claim is emitted without a runtime citation bound to a document, page, and confidence score.
The system is grounded in original documentation such as regulatory filings, field reports, well records, schematic scans, cement bond logs, production records, and well control event history. It also uses reference documents such as regulations, engineering standards, and jurisdiction codes.
About the Founders
Paul McKim, Co-founder
Paul has spent his career at the working end of the offshore industry. He started as a commercial diver in the Gulf and the North Sea in the 1970s, later led a submarine company operating in deep water, and today owns Crescent Energy Services, a leading plugging and abandonment operator in the Gulf. He has seen for decades how unplugged and orphaned wells can drain time, money, and safety margins when teams cannot quickly rely on the well record.
Joey Renzaglia, Co-founder and Developer
Joey learned the research problem by living it. He worked with legacy wells and alongside engineers and operators who had to dig through decades of filings across many sources to answer basic but critical questions. He saw how the answers were often buried in handwritten reports, microfiche, and old filings, and how getting it wrong could create real field risk.
How WIDS Started
WIDS started with a conversation. Joey and Paul met at a backyard BBQ, the idea took shape on the spot, and they got to work right away. Paul brought the rig-side view, where the value is clear when a crew can receive a verified and comprehensive well report before mobilizing. Joey brought the research-side view, where the cost of missing or delayed records shows up every day.

Where We Are Today

Our data collection process is backed by patent pending, trademark, and copyright protection. We are also building for the future, with infrastructure designed to support more products beyond our current report offering.
